DESCRIPTION:About the Class:What do drag queens and clowns (good ones at le
 ast) have in common?  They are able to pull off their characters by creatin
 g and sustaining believable (or unbelievable) stage personae.  The stage pe
 rsona can be anything from an extension of self to a fantastic flaming crea
 ture and finding your inner "queen" is an effective way to connect with the
  audience and tell a story.  Through theatre and improvisation exercises\, 
 writing prompts\, and movement activities\, this workshop will provide a fr
 amework\, techniques\, and the creative space to begin the process of birth
 ing and developing a flamboyant stage persona.  Some burlesque or performin
 g experience suggested but not required.About the Instructor:Dr. Lucky is a
  seasoned performer\, producer and educator.  Over the past 10 years\, Luck
 y has carved a space for herself with her unique comedic timing and over-th
 e-top theatricality.  She has been hailed a big\, bad\, bold drag queen" by
  Bust magazine and has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition\, NY1\, Time.
 com\, Washington Post\, among others.  Though a huge fan of hyperbole\, the
  prefix to her name is the one "real" thing about her:  she is the only bur
 lesque performer in the world with a PhD.  For the past five years\, she ha
 s taught unsuspecting drama students at New York University how to twirl ta
 ssels and think critically about burlesque.  She is also a faculty member a

 r\, producer and educator.  Over the past 10 years\, Lucky has carved a spa
 ce for herself with her unique comedic timing and over-the-top theatricalit
 y.  She has been hailed a big\, bad\, bold drag queen" by Bust magazine and
  has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition\, NY1\, Time.com\, Washington P
 ost\, among others.  Though a huge fan of hyperbole\, the prefix to her nam
 e is the one "real" thing about her:  she is the only burlesque performer i
 n the world with a PhD.  For the past five years\, she has taught unsuspect
 ing drama students at New York University how to twirl tassels and think cr
 itically about burlesque.  She is also a faculty member at the New York Sch
 ool of Burlesque and has taught for BurlyCon\, CUNY\, Movement Research\, a
 nd everything from children's theatre camp to bachelorette parties.  She is
  happy to return to the Palace of Wonders to help spread some glamour acros
 s our beautiful capital.
