Discover this Park!
Discovery park is awesome, a Seattle gem that saves the souls of many an overworked city dweller. Take your dog and hit the trails on a sunny afternoon and you will not be disappointed. I like to park my car on the eastern edge of the giant green space and then work my way to the westernmost tip of the park where stands a classic lighthouse overlooking the action. Take a picnic and hang out at the top of Magnolia Bluff, enjoy the view of the Olympic Peninsula and watch lethargic shipping vessels creep towards their destination. Alternatively you can climb down to the protected tidal beach itself, play in the sand and wade around the rocky promontory. At the tip of the rocks is the swirling meeting of Puget Sound and Elliot Bay and you can feel the merging waters pull at your wet legs, this way and that. Up top are broad meadows and forest groves, and you can also find live sand dunes and trickling streams to wander around. Discovery Park is Seattle's biggest and most diverse public park and a beacon of environmental education in our city, well worth several visits, slobbery games of fetch, and sunny afternoon picnics.
