Fits like a glove
Every time I go to the House of Blues, I get exactly the experience I craved. There are a few different reasons to go to the House of Blues. If you're a tourist, you can definitely get your Hard Rock Cafe/Planet Hollywood fill from the dining section, which, of course, sells merchandise. But, there is a lot more in the dining than just the shtick of name recognition. The food is pretty dang delicious and there is a distinct, central bar area. If you time it right, you can see incredible local jazz in the dining area.
The crowd varies dramatically around this joint. A couple weeks back I went to a punk show on a Tuesday night and saw people that were living the punk life style in full force, and probably had been since the 90s. two days later I went to see a funk/electronica show. Absolutely none of the faces were the same, and other than layout the venue could have been a completely different place. The House of Blues holds no prejudice with its lineup and treats everyone with the same love...as long as you buy a ticket.
The acoustics are great, the vibe is always right, and there are two bar areas for those lushes at an all ages show, otherwise drinks are available on the main floor as well. One bar area is a nicer lounge zone, but there is no view of the music. The other is an upstairs terrace with the kind of view and occasional seating that makes you look like you spent a couple extra benjamins on your ticket. Liquor prices are high though, so grab a shot or two at one of the many bars within two blocks before rocking out, or getting hyphy, or falling in love with a songstress, or seeing big name comedy.
All love and all good at the House of Blues in downtown San Diego.
