Good things come in small packages
I've been to the Hawthorne Theatre a few times, and I have enjoyed every one of them (well, okay, all except for one, but that was because I took my sister to a screamo concert; yes, screamo). Depending on the act, there will be a line, but security is pretty good in ushering people through the doors FAST. If you're thinking about getting autographs, do not bring your own Sharpie. They will confiscate, I assure you.
The venue itself is rather small. It can be, as my father loves to say, butt-to-nuts, depending on the act. Posters of previous performers cover the walls, and for those over the legal drinking age, climb the stairs to the bar above and look down on those who aren't imbibing. For the under-21 set, they have someone doling out water and pop for insane prices (recommendation: hydrate beforehand).
For those worried about parking, just park in one of the surrounding neighborhoods. I've done that a few times and haven't had a problem with the PoPo or the homeowners.

Short girl loves the Hawthorne!
One thing I love about the Hawthorne is how easy it is to see the stage no matter where you are. If you're over 21, the lofted bar gives a perfect view over the downstairs bar. And if you don't mind getting cozy with your fellow fans, it's a great spot to camp out for the whole night.
If you're under 21, the view is still great from the floor because it's not very big and you can get right up to the stage. Much better than places like the Crystal Ballroom where you can get trapped behind a huge guy and never see the band. Depending on the popularity of the show, you might be elbow to elbow with you're neighbors, but you'll be able to see even if you're surrounding by tall people.
