
Christmas Village in Philadelphia
Center City Philadelphia has its very own Christmas Village, right outside city hall! The village opened on November 27th, and runs through December 24, 2010. It is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free!
What is the Christmas Village exactly?
Christmas Village in Philadelphia is an outdoor Holiday market event at Dilworth Plaza on the west side of City Hall Philadelphia from Thanksgiving till Christmas Eve. Vendors in more than 80 wooden booths and a big tent which form a nice little village sell European food, sweets and drinks as well as international seasonal holiday gifts, ornaments and high quality arts and crafts.
The village also has special themed weekends and numerous musical performances going on. Below are some of the special events and performances happening at the Philadelphia Christmas Village in 2010.
Army Navy Weekend 12/11/10 – 12/12/10
The Christmas Village will celebrate the Army/Navy game in Philadelphia with special musical acts, including performaces from Houston West Banjo, Experience Kef, The Absolute Zeros, Justin Baron, and Kickin’ Bear.
International Weekend 12/18/10 – 12/19/10
Various local cultural heritage clubs will be performing during this weekend to give us a glimpse into the cultures of their countries of origin. There will be performances by Swedish Museum Singers, The Deutschschüler von Harford Christian School, Chris Latzke & Mary Scholz, Janosik Polish Dance Ensemble, and Monique Legaré International Dance Company.
Family Day (every Friday afternoon through 12/17/10)
These special family days feature facepainters, magicians, balloons and much more. Some of the performers include Sam Gongol, Boy Wonder, Ami Verrill, Pottsgrove High School Show Choir, Amanda Hewitt, and Liat.
