The Walking Dead joins Mad Men and Breaking Bad on AMC, October 31st

What does an advertising executive from the sixties, a terminally ill chemistry teacher turned drug dealer and a survivor in the zombie apocalypse have in common? They are all main characters in a tremendously riveting, or soon to be, original television series on AMC.

Come October 31st at 10pm, The Walking Dead will join Mad Men and Breaking Bad in AMC\’s lineup of boundary breaking shows.

Based on the critically acclaimed graphic novel by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead is set in a post-invasion zombie apocalypse in which Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually), sets out to locate his wife and son after waking up in a hospital bed. In his search he happens along small clusters of other survivors eking out an existence among flesh starved ghouls.

Focusing on these individual stories, instead of zombies tirelessly assaulting characters barricaded in an [insert large commercial structure here], The Walking Dead takes a unique approach to a genre that has been revisited, rebooted and re-imagined quite a bit in the last few years.

With Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption) at the reins as executive producer, writer and director of the 90 minute series premiere, it is hard to imagine this show not being a spectacular hit.

Captured from Making Of by AMC.

That\’s not to mention Darabont\’s heavy hitting Hollywood backup. He is joined by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens) as executive producer and Gregory Nicotero (Inglourious Basterds, Army of Darkness) creating some of the most stunning makeup effects in zombie history – do yourself a favor and check out his impressive portfolio.

Also check out AMC\’s recently released behind the scenes footage (below) which highlights the massive undertaking to bring this graphic novel to life.

I wonder if, “I\’m waiting for the zombie apocalypse to start” will be a good enough excuse to get out of my co-workers Halloween party.

  • Nathan Collins

lest we forget ‘rubicon’. a very good show also on AMC.

    • Rory Wood

I haven’t actually seen Rubicon yet, Nathan, but I’ll be sure to catch an episode soon.

      Thanks for the tip.
