The Raid 2: Berandal Begins Production, Prepares To Pummel Audiences
Here’s the best news you’re going to hear today—unless your team wins the Super Bowl—The Raid 2: Berandal has started production. As you probably guessed, this is the sequel to Gareth Evan’s banana’s action film The Raid: Redemption which pummeled audiences mercilessly last year. The word “berandal,” we’re told, means thug.
The Raid 2: Berandal reunites Evans with star Iko Uwais, and part two takes picks up the action just after the conclusion of the first film. You might also recognize some familiar faces if you’ve seen Evan’s previous film Merantau. Alex Abbad from that film is joining the party. Filming is scheduled for 100 days in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Here’s a brief synopsis contained in the long winded press release:
Picking up right where the first film ends, The Raid 2 follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.
This is great news for action fans, as well as martial arts movie enthusiasts. The Raid: Redemption set the world on fire like few badass high-octane movies have in recent memory. Cinema can always use more movies like this.
There’s no news on when we might see The Raid 2: Berandal, but you can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
