The Piazza at Schmidts adds a whole new experience to Northern Liberties.

The Piazza at Schmidts adds a whole new experience to Northern Liberties.

Northern Liberties has proven to be an up and coming Philadelphia area ever since its inception. And Bart Blatstein and his Tower Investments Inc. have always been one of the forerunners for helping it evolve. But with Towers newest creation, The Piazza at Schmidts, they have officially taken there jet setting ways to a whole new level

The Piazza, which was officially unveiled on May 16, is a beautifully landscaped, 80,000 square foot open-air plaza with free events year-round, surrounded by three new buildings including 35 artist\’s studios and boutiques, four new restaurants, 500 apartments and 50,000 square feet of office space. And it\’s all a huge part of Blatstein\’s 28 acre, $500 million Northern Liberties project, the country\’s largest private urban renewal initiative. Blatstein has been reshaping the neighborhood transforming it from a post-industrial void into a pioneering new community since 2000.

But enough about the specifics, because it\’s the places and events that make the Piazza so amazing! An area that people will still be familiar with is Liberties Walk, which has been a different kind of shopping complex ever since it was first unveiled in 2006. Even new spots will have familiar faces since The Swift Half a gastro-pub by the owners of Philly\’s hotspot The Good Dog, and P.Y.T. bar and lounge is run by popular party promoter Tommy Up. There will also be plenty of incredible arts venues, such as Bambi Gallery, Waterbox Studio, and The Toothless Cat.

Piazza events have already included a huge trunk show with 150 emerging artists, and a 3 day world music festival. But they will carry on by airing sporting events and movies on a supersized screen, having plenty of art openings, and hooking up free concerts. And on Saturday June 20 Philebrity and Vitaminwater will be hooking up The Piazza with a HUGE free concert as part of the 2nd Street Festival.
