Dean Winters - Mr. Mayhem
Dean Winters – Mr. Mayhem

Dean Winters (also known as Mayhem) has become wildly popular since his first Allstate commercial aired earlier this year.   How could he not?  The witty and sometimes painful series of commercials has created a huge buzz.  Dean Winters portrays “Mayhem”, and you never know in what form he will come or what kind of damage he will do.  Your only guarantee is that it is going to be funny.

Background on Dean Winters

Dean Winters has been acting for quite a while.  He is best known for the characters he played in the shows “Oz” (1997-2003) as Ryan O\’Reily, “30 Rock” as Dennis Duffy, and the reoccurring former love of Sarah Connor in “Terminator:  The Sarah Connor Chronicles”.

On June 20, 2010, Winters was introduced to us as “Mayhem.”

Amazingly, a year before Dean suffered an aggressive bacterial infection that stopped his heart for 2½ minutes.  He was revived and treated for the infection, but developed gangrene.  Dean was forced to have two toes and half a thumb amputated.  He has had several surgeries and procedures since to repair the damage.

Fast forward to the first teaser where Puppy Mayhem warned us that more mayhem was on the way -  he wasn\’t kidding.  Since then we have been treated to a barrage of hilarious commercials.  Here are 10 of the best.

The GPS edition is mine favorite; displaying via (semi) absurdity the proclavity of too many people to place blind trust in the tools and tech that surrounds them.

I will admit I did not make note of Dean in “…The Sarah Conner Chronclies” Guess I was too distracted by Summer Glau and Shirly Manson; two others who have personified Mayham/Chaos in their past works.

Thanks for posting these though, I did miss a few and seeing those, and the other again does bring a Schadenfreude tainted smile to ones visage.

    • Karen Barnhart

Sin, I too enjoy the GPS piece because it highlights how insanely dependent people can become on technology. :)

Wasn’t there suppose to be a contest to vote for or suggest where Mayhem was going next? I am sure those wonderful people on 4Chan have some ideas where he can go!

    • Karen Barnhart

      Paroxetine Samurai,

Do you have any opinions where Mayhem should go next?

  • http://att.net Jeanette Di Eva

Dean is even cuter then the Aflac duck!!!!! He makes my day….

    • Karen Barnhart

      Jeanette,

I think the powers that be were very wise to pick Dean.

  • Cheryl

The GPS Mayhem is definitely my favorite. Everytime I see it I almost bust my side laughing. It just reminds me of myself because I have not updated my GPS system in a few years. I still use it but I always have a backup such as a mapquest. My GPS would mess me up all the time if I solely depended on it. This is really funny. GO Allstate Insurance for coming up with these commercials.

  • Ida

I like how people get pissy about the pink bandana jogger, but not about the teenager driving the pink SUV… it’s the same stereotype, but I guess it’s okay to make fun of teenagers. Age discrimination, I tell you… Personally, I think they’re both hilarious, as are the others. My favourite is definitely the puppy though :)

    • Karen Barnhart

      Ida,

It is funny what people get upset about, isn’t it? I am glad you mentioned the puppy one. It started it all, and man it is cute!

  • mardo

i take offence at the snow on the roof one! WHO the hell do they think they are!!!! “just like you,the farther into winter you go the heavyer you get???” thats insulting!!!!!! they need to take that one off the air!!!!!!!!. or my fat club will sue.

  • Tee

I like the teenage girl (OMG!) the best. I guess because I can relate to it as I have an emotional teenage daughter. But I like them all really. Entertaining.

  • Jeff

I work as a 9-1-1 dispatcher in our county. We had the TV on Christmas Eve in our center when the “Douglas Fir” commercial came on. As soon as it went off, a call came in that someone had lost a Christmas tree in the fast lane of the highway that runs through town. After taking the call, another dispatcher had to give it out over the radio. I was laughing so hard I cried!

  • Willowdkr

    Love them all…I can’t choose…lol

  • Sunovermt

GPS is the best. BUT, I do love them all.

The racoon mayhem is my favorite!…Love the Mayhem guy!

  • Teetee7044

The blind side mayhem had me cracking up love them all tho!

  • Ryan

I love the GPS commercial. That commercial presents a very likely scenario for many people. And it’s hilarious how mayhem pulls it off. I like to see an insurance company air such humorous commercials. My second face is where mayhem test drives a motorcycle from a potential seller an then wrecks it and runs away laughing with the seller chasing him. Bravo to Allstate for this ad campaign or whatever contractor they hired to launch the campaign.

  • Rbabiba

    raccoon is the best!

  • Chrismfrank63

    I luv MAYHEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  c. frank

  • Bornahyard

The master mind behind these commercials is awesome!

  • Kelly

The blind spot has to be the best one and it’s not even up here! Definately in the top 10

  • Cjkinpa

The best one is the Blind Spot.  The lady screaming and Dean laughing maniacally all in slow motion is absolutely hysterical.
