SketchFest Brings the Funny to Seattle October 6-8, 2011

If you’re a comedy fan you won’t want to miss this year’s SketchFest. Along with sketch comedy there will be stand up performances as well as a film festival. All of the shows will be at the Theatre off Jackson, and tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets.

From the site:

SketchFest Seattle is the world’s original sketch comedy festival, with a reputation for presenting the best and most original comedy from around the globe. For twelve years SketchFest has reigned supreme as the Seattle comedy festival. Don’t miss this year’s stellar line-up of great acts from Seattle and beyond.

This will be the fourth year of the SketchFest Film Festival. It’s not too late to submit your video. If you have a funny idea burning in your mind and you are looking for a last minute project, there’s no time like the present. The deadline is Monday September 12, and the details can be found here. The best videos will be screened on the opening night gala, and there will be an audience award, and a juried award. The jurors for that award will be Luke BurbankLauren Weedman, and John Osebold. Each of the prize winners will win $100, and the pride of recognition from some very funny and talented people.

The Entertainment Show

There is a full schedule of the performances on the website. If you aren’t familiar with the performers, not to worry. There is a youtube channel that might help you decide what’s best for you. I was lucky enough to catch the preview at Bumbershoot, and each of the acts was quite funny. The Entertainment Show was particularly outstanding. They played around a lot with the fourth wall, and there were jokes inside jokes inside jokes. Ubiquitous They and The DK and Morgan Show were as different from each other as possible, and had the audience laughing from start to finish.

This was just a taste of the comedy buffet to come in October. If the rest of the troupes and comedians bring the funny like the the Bumbershoot showcase did, then this year’s SketchFest will be one to remember.
