Seattle Tattoo Expo Goes Down This Weekend August 12-14

You may have noticed this already, but people in Seattle have a lot of tattoos. Mind blowing revelation, am I right? But seriously, go to any park anywhere in town on a sunny afternoon and you’ll be treated to a bevy of pictures permanently etched into flesh. We’re not just talking about baristas, bartenders, and band members here, either. At work the other day a grandmother pulled out her arm and showed me her three-quarter sleeve. It isn’t at all uncommon to see a guy in a suit with a little ink peeking from beneath the cuff of his shirt. Seattle is a town that truly celebrates body art across a wide range of demographics.

In that spirit, the Seattle Tattoo Expo goes down this weekend—Friday, August 12th through Sunday, August 14th—at Seattle Center. The expo will take over the Northwest Room at the Center, and features artists from all over the nation, not to mention those from just down the street. Individual artists as well as shops will fill more than 100 booths, there are going to be a variety of contests, and there are even seminars for practitioners that range from basic artistic techniques to the specifics of tattooing over mastectomies.

In addition to the activities at the convention itself, there are a wide variety of pre-expo events, after parties, art shows, and concerts happening in conjunction with the Seattle Tattoo Expo. Some of the musical acts scheduled to appear at Neumo’s on Capital Hill include names like High On Fire, The Sword, local favorites Lesbian, and tons more.

Founded by Damon Conklin, the owner of SuperGenius Tattoo, the Seattle Tattoo Expo is now in its 10th year, and, according to the website, “was formed with the primary goal of exposing new talent, showcasing existing fan favorites, and providing enthusiasts with gathering place to share their love for this enduring art form.” So go ahead, get tattooed, make an appointment, browse through portfolios, find a new artist, or just gawk at all the pretty pictures people have had indelibly etched into the flesh of your fellow Seattlites.

Below is a list of the scheduled events. But for news up to the minute news, ticket info, directions, photos, and a complete list of who will be at the Seattle Tattoo Expo, go to www.seattletattooexpo.com.
