Rip the Cut Memorial Basketball Tournament to feature NBA players Jamal Crawford, Terrence Williams, Aaron Brooks, Martell Webster and Spencer Hawes
In what has become a Memorial Day tradition in Seattle, Garfield High School will play host to some of the city’s top basketball talent in the 2010 Rip the Cut Memorial Basketball Tournament this weekend. The tournament began 13 years ago as a way to honor Rahsaan Phillips, a popular Central District barber and Garfield Community Center volunteer who was shot at the age of 25. The three day tournament will feature players from around the city, including NBA players Jamal Crawford, Terence Williams, Aaron Brooks, Martell Webster and Spencer Hawes. Money raised from the event will be donated to two area schools to help support athletic programs and provide sports equipment. Williams and Brooks’ teams will play their first games Saturday at 11 a.m., Webster and Hawes tip-off at noon and Crawford’s team will take the court at 1 p.m.
