Easily one the best clubs in Portland, the Holocene's size makes its diversity possible. The main room is leveled off to casually separate the bar from the dance floor. The interior room feels like an all ages rec center, but has an outstanding sound system and large projection screen behind the stage. Check out the bathroom-sized smoking room before its too late. Concrete and lit only by a single bulb, its looks like a crack house and feels like a nicotine tent. It's hard not to think of it as a cruel joke on smokers by the owners. You will wait at the bar, but its almost always worth it.

Run down. Creaky. Paradise! Walking into the Clinton St. Theater, its not hard to believe that this little gem is almost 100 years old! It truly looks like a relic from the vaudeville days. In spite of its run down bathrooms and occasional projector malfunction, the Clinton St. feels like home right in the heart of southeast. Local films, festivals, revivals, and new releases can all be seen here. The recent Clinton Street Brewing, the "smallest operational commercial brewery in the state of Oregon", gives patrons the option of beer and pizza (from Hammy's, just down the street).

A Club Amongst Clubs.
One of the quintessential clubs in Portland. Big enough to satisfy the masses, but small enough for genuine intimacy. The stage is small and low enough to see the whites of the performers eyes and the sound rarely disappoints. Placed right in the heart of downtown Portland. Got too drunk? Dantes pizza stand is right across the street and Voodoo Doughnuts is right around the corner.
