A Lot of Art

This place isn't always open, but when it is, it sure packs in the artistic activities densely. Starting with the overall atmosphere, which perfectly captures the spirit of Elegant Art Warehouse, it presents itself and its contents with a professional flair. Aspiring painters can dream of having an exhibit on these walls, and considering the openness to the community, it's not an unrealistic hope.

Luring You In

Even the outside surroundings here are dreamy, complete with swans in the green water. The actual events here seem to fit into a theme of slight surreality, perhaps in accordance with the swirly San Franciscan flower child/fantasyland vibe that one stumbles on every so often. This is also probably the largest theater in this particular neighborhood, so if you're in the area, you might as well take advantage of it.

Intellectual Stimulation

So, not to get distracted, but, although I might go here to find a nice edition of Moby Dick, I would certainly keep an eye out at the same time for a cute soul mate who's there looking for the latest David Sedaris or a Christopher Durang compilation. In other words, the level of taste in personal literary choices is notably sharp, to the point where you can count on a a certain probability of encountering people here who get your literary references.

What to Do NEXT?

Every so often I'm drawn to spots like this, where I put any financial reservations on hold and blow the whole day on indulging my instant gratification side. After all, another commemorative t-shirt and gold-plated seashell necklace is always useful. Not to mention the oh-so-San-Franciscan chowder-in-a-sourdough-breadbowl! And it HAS been too long since I've gotten to ride a carousel.

Casual Yet Classy

The surroundings here fit well with the low-stress version of going out for a stimulating movie. Parking is right next door and usually easy; there are well-tended trees and grass nearby; and lines tend to be short. This is a nice place to bring a date, actually (although there's not much else to do in the immedate vicinity). Arrive early, though, and you can share concessions at the cafe-like space in front while waiting for your film.
