Belly Dancing to Rage Against the Machine

When I heard 'experimental belly dancing', I was thinking...this ought to be good. AND IT WAS! Seriously- the two beautiful girls in sparkly, jingling outfits truly raged it, and the audience loved it! Through dance, we will TAKE THE POWER BACK!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I went to the Comedy Underground last Thursday for the first time, and I laughed my pants off- an hour and a half of hilarity for $6? What? Be sure to sit up front so the comedians can make fun of you and your friends, which is really the best part. You might want to sneak in some rum or something though because we didn't get drinks until halfway through the show- however I do think they were understaffed or something; there was only one waitress in the room. Great laughs!

Ooh-La-La Fashion in Seattle

And I am not talking about what usually passes as style in this town: jeans rolled up past the ankles, REI raincoat, and perma-I'm too cool hipster face. Seattle's Fashion Group International Spring Fling at the Waterfront Seafood Grill will showcase some of the best and most beautiful local jewelry, clothing, and accessories. And did I mention the cocktails, lovely women, great view of the Bay and delicious hors d'oeuvres? It will be a night of fun, fashion, and frivolity, Seattle weather be damned.

Harptallica? Are You Serious?

The name alone is enough to warrant a second glance, but I can't decide if Harptallica makes me want to run away screaming, knocking furniture and such out of my way as I claw off my own face; OR, do I slowly skulk up towards the harp-duo with an open ear, my addiction to new music and curiosity overriding my logic?

'80s Night

Bust out your day-glow shirts & acid-washed jeans- & roll 'em up

Wow, I hated the 80's when I was living them but now it's really fun to pretend I'm back in 1988 with no worries except for the fact that I accidentally put my hypercolor shirt in the dryer which also ate my purple slouch sock. I actually detest most 80's music; I was at a party this weekend where for some reason a DJ started spinning some crap tunes and it killed the vibe (and the radio star). Have fun at 80's night but for the other 95% of your life, please un-stick yourself from the 'glory days' of the past and start living in the now- there is so much great new music out there to discover there is really no need to hear that Rod Stewart song again. Please. Only one thing saves the 80's music in my mind: Billie Jean.

Minus the Bear, Plus the Crowd

So I heard these guys ripped it at Coachella, uh, from my friend who is a crazy Minus the Bear fan. Playing on the big stage at Coachella is big news for this local Seattle band whose fans are almost as manic as Dave Matthews Band fans; I have never seen them live but maybe I should.

Railroad Earth Pushed the Bluegrass

I love banjos but often bluegrass just doesn't push it enough for me- but Railroad Earth is a new breed which gives your ears the variety they crave with genuine bluegrass roots at the base. Check the show out and experience where this American art form is going.

Pink Martini Mixes Well

French and Cuban fusion music? Frenzied melanges of eclectica? What's not to like? This Pink Martini is shaken and stirred.

Wow, Armin Van Buuren spins 'completely unique' progressive house and trance? I might have to drive down from Seattle for this one!

Rumble at the Roseland

Amateur martial arts events are where it's at- these people are really fighting for their honor and junk, unlike fakey-fakey pro-wrestling which is just gross. If the Karate Kid was real, and lived in Portland, he would be at the Roseland kickin' butt and takin' names.

The Roseland Rocks!

I love this venue! It's the best place in Portland to see a big show, whether it is low-key or off the hook. Great sound!

Maybe the orange soda goes well with the red rocks...does ICP even do the whole orange soda thing still? I love Fanta as much as the next girl, but not so much in my face.

SVEET HOME ALAVAMA

As a girl from the dirrrty South I have my fair share of Lynyrd Skynyrd moments but the most memorable of all occurred in a tiny village in the Swiss Alps. I was walking along, admiring the crisp mountain scenery and flower boxes on windows when there, on the breeze, came floating a whisp of a melody...was that Lynyrd Skynyrd I was hearing? In Switzerland? It sure as hell was, and I followed the sound down the quaint little lane and the music grew louder and louder until I came upon this big rock building. I peeked into the inner courtyard and there were hundreds of Swiss teenagers, raging and rocking and singing in unison with all of their hearts: "SVEET HOME ALAVAMA, VHERE THE SKIES ARE SO BLUE..." What could I do but join in the big party and sing my heart out with them. The power of Lynyrd Skynyrd transcends cultures, borders, and musical tastes. Turn. It. Up.
