I had exceedingly low expectations for this movie but when a work friend invited me to go with her I felt that, in some odd way, it was my duty as a thirty-something single gal to check it out. Let me just say this: I never watched the show. And yet. I was, by the end of the film, laughing, tearing up, and generally enjoying ever new outfit change and witty exchange between these quirky gals.
I was concerned about the cultural expectations/mandates implicit in a movie about, primarily, single women. But I was happy to see that SATC’s message is not one-size-fits-all. Without judgment, the film applauds each woman for choosing her own, unique path, including (gasp!) that of a fulfilled, successful, childless, husbandless fifty-year old woman!
