Get thee to Belltown
I detest Belltown with every fiber of my being but SOMETIMES I am persuaded to hit up the Viceroy, whose homey vibes make it worth dodging the crackheads and prostitutes- which is really quite a compliment, if you think about it.

Nakasato's Pottery Changed My Life
Or my art, anyway. He is a master and you should all come out to the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and welcome him to our fair mile-high city.

Roseland Theater
...is dirty. Very dirty. It is a death trap waiting to catch fire and burn down, which would be good for all of humankind as long as the place was empty, of course.
All of Portland has a love/hate relationship with the Roseland- we love the shows, hate the venue. The Roseland Theatre is a necessary evil.

Ramiro Gets Down
I love Ramiro because every time I go to a Uniting Souls show, if he is not rockin' it on the decks he is beside me on the dance floor with a big fat smile on his face. Me gusta Ramiro!
Matmos

The Ark of the Covenant was a Toilet Lid
Matmos always reminds me of the story of how Spielberg used the sound of a sliding toilet tank lid for the epic moment in Raiders of the Lost Ark when the top of the Ark of the Covenant was removed (and everybody's faces melted off).
And Speilberg's wife's macaroni and cheese casserole provided the squishy sounds in the trash compactor scene in Star Wars where Leia and the gang are all about to be a lot thinner.
I spent way too much of my childhood experimenting with sound effects into a cassette recorder and making up stories to try and fool my family; a toilet lid and mac n cheese is brilliant but has NOTHING on the shit that Matmos lays down.
But then again maybe Spielberg didn't have access to the sounds of liposuction surgery or cow vaginas.
The Fremont Fair

Time Again for the Naked Bicyclists!
I adore the Fremont Fair; seeing kids in tie-dye, all the booths of handmade crafts, eating incredible food, meeting colorful people, petting weird dogs- it is a uniquely Seattle experience.
If you have out-of-town guests, why not show them your town's real character and bring them to the Fremont Fair? One year my very conservative parents were in town for the weekend, up visiting from the Bible belt. I brought them to the Fair and somehow failed to mention the opening parade which starts off with a multitude of naked bike riders (some adorned beautifully with body paint; some just buck naked).
I have never seen my Dad's jaw drop so far in my life. Golden.

The S-N-Double-O-P
No doubt Snoop will come up smelling like roses, er...Johnson's Baby Powder and Cool Water Cologne, I mean. The last time I saw the Doggfather was on the Smokin' Grooves tour about ten years ago, he rolled out a giant smoking bong, which he didn't even need as his crazy, stoned fans were throwing joints on stage like there was no tomorrow.
Alas, I have slept on this event at the Showbox SoDo and failed to get tickets! Single tear!
And just wondering since Warren G was just arrested in LA for possession of marijuana, will he make the show next week?
