Fiirst we get His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and now the 17th Karmapa is coming to Seattle to grace the Paramount? Controversy or not, my friend Tricia traveled to India and came back saying this about the seventeenth Karmapa: HE'S HOT. As far as leaders of world religions go, I would have to concur- the Pope ain't got nothin' on the Karmapa.

Tom Jones: It's Not Unusual

I have never heard the singer Tom Jones perform live, but from his CDs and lyrics alone I know I want to buy tickets for the show at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle!

Check Check Mr. Rogers

Holy steel guitar I went to high school with this guy! I have since heard he is a really good country and western singer, if you are into country and western music, which I am not, at all. Besides playing singing and playing guitar back then he also tried to spread the phrase 'check-check' as a catch-all, "I'm cool which-ya" lingoism. Obviously the music idea worked out a lot better. Go see the Randy Rogers Band and report back, Denver!

Best Bar in Seattle

The Seamonster is the best bar in Seattle, and that's not just because I have never paid for a drink there in my life. I love watching people walk in who know they belong in Belltown and turn on their shiny heels and shirts and get the hell outta there. Mad props!

Milk Carton Dolly Parton

Dolly grew up poor as dirt in the BFE of America, a refreshing reminder that not every rich and famous artist had rich and famous parents. Dolly's story is not one of the rich getting richer; she made herself a huge star with raw talent and hard work. And really big boobs.

What a Treat!

It had been a while, over a year, since I sat and chilled and listened to an orchestra, and what a wonderful treat I discovered with the Lake Union Civic Orchestra! The musicians are all extremely talented, the director very personable, and the whole experience a great refuel for the spirit. The Debussy and Strauss show was a neat contrast between turn-of-the-century French and German musical styles, and the upcoming show of The Planets and The Sorceror's Apprentice will be a fun performance and perfect for a warm summer evening. 5 Stars!

Oh Oseao

Oseao is a great space for a party, it's got that underground vibe, a bar, some cool little nooks to get away from everything and a slick dance floor. It does get hot as hell in the Capitol Hill venue, but then again you don't go to a dance party to stay nice and prim and proper.
