The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Now this was a true joy

It really was too. The characters really flew off the page and into the screen and they chose children that really could be the pevensies. All the same the talking animals were amazing, the makeup was classic (take that HP) and the battle scene was artfully done. I think the author could be proud. I did find however that a lot of the backstory that made the whole plot make sense was left out and I had to explain the motivation to my friends who were not read in the series. On one hand I know enough about making movies to know why they did that, at the same time so much was lost! It made me really sad about that. Otherwise it was an enjoyable family flic and everyone should go invest!

The Happening

Let's continue with that thought. A lack of explanations and the distinct overuse of effects (and the huge loss of tomatoes in the making of this movie) just doesn't do it for me. The movie couldn't decide if it was a thriller, a psycho-thriller, or a horror film. It was all three and overall it just lacked direction. M. Night Shamalan needs to find a compass and fast!
