Favreau does a wonderfully true-to-form take on the Iron Man lore from the pages of the Marvel comic. It is a blast, literally, from start to finish. (blog.culturemob.com)

Overthinking Ironman

Which of the following technologies would have the most revolutionary effect on the world?

  • Artificial Intelligence sophisticated enough to engage in sarcasm, wit, feel insulted, and anticipate human desires.
  • A clean, compact and incredibly powerful energy source.
  • A giant robot suit for smashing things.

Fun movie, but the centerpiece is the least interesting technology presented. If I were a shareholder of Stark Industries I'd be much more excited about the profit potential of the first two.

I'd go for the giant robot. Wait, you said effect on the "world." I thought you said, "my world."

Overthinking overthinking

I think a giant robot smashing things may be a catchy way to sell movie tickets in the future. Who knows, after this, the world may never see another romance movie in the summer again. This think may bust an entire block...hey! Blockbuster! I just came up with a new word to describe this type of movie for the future.

Iron Man rules with a fist

Despite much hype Iron Man didn't disappoint, largely due to the brilliant casting of Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. Tony Stark is the asshole of superheroes with a host of character defects such as drug addiction and promiscuity. Sound like anyone you know?

When I told Ms Sunshine we should go see Iron Man because I know how much she likes Robert Downey Jr, it took half a click for her to realize the misdirection around my desire to see most any superhero movie.

Iron Man and Mother’s Day!!

I am spending Mother’s Day in Seattle with my son. He has been an Iron Man Comic Book fan since childhood. He wants to see the movie. What on Mother’s Day!! I agree because I love my son and because I love Robert Downy, Jr.

Iron Man is absolutely stunning! It does a great job of weaving the many different emotions of a man and a super hero by showing past and present in his feelings regarding business, living for the moment, women and what this does to change his character. Casting Robert Downey, Jr. in the role is absolutely brilliant. I feel the public wants Downey Jr. to succeed just as much as Iron Man!!

The humor is fantastic; the visual effects are pure eye candy as Robert Downy, Jr. is!! The move flowed beautifully and you just don’t want it to end. Casting Jeff Bridges as the top villain was totally surprising, but it actually worked.

You leave this movie wanting to be Iron Man, is it definitely a step forward from the Spiderman movies, where you don’t feel sorry for the comic character; that the superhero can get do good for the world and get the girl! See it on the big screen and you won’t be disappointed!!

I want his car collection.

If the Joker (Jack Nicholson) crossed paths with Tony Stark he'd repeat his inquisitive compliment, "Where does he get those wonderful toys?"

But alas they will never meet even though my Batman and Iron Man comic books reside in the same banker's box.

RDJ did an outstanding job in my humble opinion.

I did get to drive the Tony Stark Audi R8 to the 11-99 Foundation fund raiser screening of Iron Man...pictures HERE

Iron Man: A Dreamboat (who blows up things)

Iron Man embodies the obvious (but oh so necessary) characteristics of my personal favorite type of Superhero: the misunderstood, I never wanted to save the world, why can’t I just continue playing with my daddy’s money because I don’t trust myself enough but I secretly really want to learn how to be a better person, please make me into a man—Superhero. Boyish good looks, intensely decked out body, misunderstood persona, shamelessly flawed and arrogant demeanor (I believe its getting warm in here), egotistical intelligence, hyper sexualized alpha male (water, please), and overall the unattainable, successful and (lets not forget) rich son of someone who’s also really rich and well known who you are just dyeing to see grow into the man, I mean superhero, you know he has the potential to be. Sigh. Well, that’s a woman’s perspective.

But, seriously—you can include Iron Man in the grand influx of Superhero movies that have been able to magnify the meaning behind a true superhero. In my opinion, the best superheros are those who have been forced to learn from their mistakes, who are human in retrospect and whose combination of flaws, guts and idealism push them over the edge of risk and valor. Iron Man became a Superhero when he vowed to stop masterminding the bombs that were used to hurt so many people, including those of his own country. The movie hyped you up with his intelligent, bold and hilarious inventions, his sympathetic and beautiful (we won’t get in to my personal philosophy on that) personal assistant, and his clueless military token black friend.

It was a great movie.
