About This Movie

Peter Bretter has spent six years idolizing his girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall. He's the guy left holding her purse in paparazzi photos and accidentally omitted from acceptance award speeches. But his world is rocked when she dumps him and Peter finds himself alone. After an unsuccessful bout of womanizing and an on-the-job nervous breakdown, he sees that not having Sarah may just ruin his life. To clear his head, Peter takes an impulsive trip to Oahu, where he is confronted by his worst nightmare: his ex and her tragically hip new British-rocker boyfriend, Aldous, are sharing his hotel. But, as he torments himself with the reality of Sarah's new life, he finds relief in a flirtation with Rachel, a beautiful resort employee whose laid-back approach tempts him to rejoin the world. He also finds relief in several hundred embarrassing, fruity cocktails.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Worth $9.00

This movie is pretty dang funny, and I wasn't the only one who thought so- the whole audience at Oak Tree Cinema was laughing, and cringing, and then laughing again at this romantic comedy set almost completely in Hawaii. 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' works because it isn't typical chick-flick romantic comedy schtick about love and flowers and la-dee-dah; rather it's about the horrible, heart-wrenching experience of losing all that. Who hasn't been curled up in the fetal position on the floor, wailing like a little girl over some jerk who is already off with their next love interest? If the guffaws were any indication, the audience on Sunday afternoon had certainly been. Boys and girls will love this movie, although (SPOILER ALERT!!!) if you are opposed to gratuitous male frontal nudity, you might want to skip it.

Not to mention the publicity blitz

I almost love this movie for its shamelessly excessive marketing campaign alone... although an ending that includes actual footage of a puppet rock musical about Dracula isn't bad either. But seriously, when you take into consideration the emotional substance of reaonably realistically portrayed relationships, a lineup of really funny moments, and a nice Hawaiian vacation landscape, you get a truly enjoyable two hours (or however long it was). Almost everyone in the central cast is also a real celebrity in today's entertainment industry, which adds a certain glee to the parade of recognizable comic characters, from the audience's perspective.
