‘Miss Thunder Laughter’ Memorial Show at the Can Can

0 101

Tragically, Seattle’s burlesque community must soon say goodbye to one of their own.

Sakara Dunlap, known on the stage as Righteous Depravity, passed away recently at the age of 22. Among her friends, she was always known for her bold laugh, and that laughter will be missed.

Sakara’s family, friends, and fellow performers have lost someone most beloved. The Emerald City itself has lost a beautiful artist who enriched us all with her work.

However, what is burlesque about if not a celebration of life? Led by the Luminous Pariah, a group of Righteous Depravity’s colleagues are putting on a benefit show at the CanCan. The line up for the show is simply astounding. Nineteen talented performers have signed up be part of it, a number rarely scene, if ever. With so many acts, the show is expected to last into the wee hours, and the longer the better. Some highlights from the line up include the most talented belly dancer in Seattle Fuchsia Foxx, the famed Sydni Deveraux, and Righteous Depravity’s fellows from Mod Carousel: Paris Original and Trojan Original.

Righteous Depravity’s acts were always larger than life and overflowing with energy, and that’s exactly what this show is aiming to be. It’s both about saying goodbye as well as honoring her and what she brought to our lives. From all appearances, it’ll be a show to talk about for a long time.

The performance is scheduled for May 11, starting at 10:00pm. Tickets are available here. For only fifteen dollars, this show is an amazing deal. The proceeds will go to Sakara’s family to help them pay for funeral and investigation expenses. Anyone who has ever lost a loved one knows what the financial burdens are like, and with any luck they can be alleviated a little. If there has ever been a better reason to go see a burlesque show, I can’t think of one.
