Mixed Media Painting Art Walk Art Walk Downbeat Experimental Electronic
Thu, 10:00PM at Club Nokia
Online magazine I AM A LASER along with Los Angeles events team The Service Company (Destroy LA, We The People Festival) has created a new night of cutting-edge cultural expression. Hitting Los Angeles on the second Thursday of every month, I AM A LASER aims to connect seekers from different scenes with a love of visual arts, beat purity, festival ethos and urban gypsies.
Coinciding with the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk and picking up where the evening hours end, I AM A LASER is a showcase of fresh electronic beats, live artwork and an eclectic mix of wanderers from the LA area, yourself included. A perfect nightcap to the city’s Art Walk, I AM A LASER brings people together under an umbrella of gritty beats in a Blade-Runneresque environment, a slick and swanky setting for the fine future sound whose many miscreant children run amok in our fair city, beats flung out to the far reaches of mindspace and beyond.
Held at the upstairs Mezzanine Bar of Club Nokia, the first installment of...

moreMatmos always reminds me of the story of how Spielberg used the sound of a sliding toilet tank lid for the epic moment in Raiders of the Lost Ark when the top of the Ark of the Covenant was removed (and everybody's faces melted off).
And Speilberg's wife's macaroni and cheese casserole provided the squishy sounds in the trash compactor scene in Star Wars where Leia and the gang are all about to be a lot thinner.
I spent way too much of my childhood experimenting with sound effects into a cassette recorder and making up stories to try and fool my family; a toilet lid and mac n cheese is brilliant but has NOTHING on the shit that Matmos lays down.
But then again maybe Spielberg didn't have access to the sounds of liposuction surgery or cow vaginas.
