Anyone who follows the Seattle burlesque scene has probably been to the Triple Door. It’s been host to some fantastic shows over the years; Viva Oz Vegas, Everything But the Kitchen Sink (or not), and the amazing Through the Looking Glass: The Burlesque Alice in Wonderland. On September 23rd, the Triple Door continues it’s excellent tradition with Paula The Swedish Housewife’s House of Thee Unholy #4.
Four years ago, The Swedish Housewife imagined a show that would be unlike anything Seattle had seen. She wanted to break from the convention of an MC announcing a series of individual acts and create a unified show.
So what would this new show be about? As a devoted fan of the 1970s, the Swedish Housewife chose drugs, sex, and rock and roll, with a heavy emphasis on the rock and roll. From there House of thee Unholy was born, and four years later it’s still going strong.
Unholy is different from other burlesque shows because it is an ensemble piece. Each of the performers collaborated on the show’s choreography; with Seattle’s boylesque king Waxie Moon acting as the choreographic lead.
As if the genius of Mr. Moon wasn’t enough, Unholy ups the stakes further with a dazzling audio display. All of the music is from a live band of talented Seattle musicians who play some of the best English Blues-Rock this side of the British Isles. In fact, anyone planning to see the show should brush up on their rock and roll history, because House of Thee Unholy is so inspired by 70s troupes and themes that the references will flow like wine (and the wine will flow after 10:00pm).
To say anything further about the show would give too much away and risk spoiling the evening. The Swedish Housewife has a reputation for fine burlesque in Seattle, and it is a reputation well earned. House of Thee Unholy is a work of passion by everyone involved and is sure to make an evening to be remembered.
The show opens Thursday, September 23rd. Tickets are available here. For more by Paula the Swedish Housewife, check out her website here.
