This collection of local bands will come together at Brooklyn’s Shea Stadium, a venue that doubles as a recording studio ( they’re rigged to record performances as well) for the release of Slothbear’s new 7″. An intimate all ages space with high energy from both he performers and the audience, this is a respite from your typical Thursday night.
The Girls Night Out- Jenny Owen Youngs at The Rock Shop, 9/16. She’s cute, funny, and insanely talented what’s not to love about Jenny Owen Youngs? The Rock Shop in Park Slope has great food, a sports bar and pool tables on top of the live music, so the $10 cover is well worth it. Come on down, grab a burger and hope Jenny plays “Hot in Herre” so you and your girls can (loudly!) sing along.
The Date Night- Beirut at Terminal 5, 9/21 ad 9/22. Reviews for Terminal 5 as a venue are mixed at best, but it’s undoubtedly one of the top places to go see great music this season. Their calendar is showing off a roster ranging from moe. to Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks to Portugal. The Man. The unexpected, eclectic Beirut is the act to not miss. The Rip Tide, their newest album,Â is a deep and mellow affair and a night out with them is sure to be just as cozy as a night in.
The Face Melter- Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad at Brooklyn Bowl 9/29. You do the math- it’s the Brooklyn Bowl, it’s $7, and it’s tight, funky reggae. It’s a guaranteed good time, whether you’re wearing your bowling or dancing shoes.
