Recently formed ‘supergroup’ Fistful Of Mercy combines the diverse talents of Dhani Harrison, Joseph Arthur and Ben Harper, who have collaborated in a creative effort that will bring forth both an album and a tour. The album, titled “As I Call You Down” will be released on Harrison’s own label, Hot Records, and the upcoming tour sees the band crossing the country from Seattle to Philadelphia in a limited run that lasts for a mere ten dates.

Tour dates are as follows:

November 9th,  Seattle, WA:  Showbox
November 11th San Francisco, CA:  Great American Music Hall
*November 13th Los Angeles, CA: Hollywood Forever Cemetery
November 14th Los Angeles, CA: Hollywood Forever Cemetery
November 16th Washington, D.C.: Sixth & I
November 17th New York, NY: Apollo Theater
November 20th Philadelphia, PA: Temple University

Although ticket ordering periods have already begun, fans who don’t live nearby one of the above venues can still support this emerging trio by pre-ordering the band’s album, which will be released in both CD and vinyl format on October 5th. The vinyl version will be offered in stores on September 28th (a week prior to the official street date) is restricted to a pressing of only 200 copies, so early purchasing decisions carry a definite advantage. Also, the first 300 orders of any type will be accompanied by a signed poster from the band. Music collectors, take note! Fans can peruse the band’s merchandise offerings here.

The band has fully embraced the capabilities of media to reach a large and diverse audience in a short time frame. Their website offers a video clip showing the band members in studio, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of the band members’ unique personalities and musical backgrounds. Additionally, the band’s lead single is available as a free download to anyone who agrees to sign up for their mailing list. Although I was unable to get the download link to display properly in Firefox, it worked great in Safari.

If the single is any indication, fans can look forward to an album that is  full of tight harmonies, hopeful lyrics, and engaging instrumental arrangements. As someone who considers Joseph Arthur to be a longtime personal inspiration, I am excited to hear the end result as he displays his talents alongside the equally respectable musical gifts from Harper and Harrison.
