Take home something new this month from your Farmers' Market.

Eating locally is hot right now, but it’s also healthy, and not just for your body.  Your local Farmers’ Market is an extension of the community, not only allowing you to meet your local farmers and crafters, but also getting you and your neighbors together and building on that sense of community.  Continuing in a series briefly examining the Farmers’ Markets in north OC and in the Anaheim/Fullerton area, here’s a list of can’t miss Farmers’ Markets for folks in the mid Orange County area.

Garden Grove’s Certified Farmers’ Market has been a success since the beginning and continues to be an enjoyable experience every Sunday, from 10am until 3pm.  Visitors don’t have to get up super early to enjoy the fresh produce, farm cheeses, and crafts, and they can head home to enjoy the treats and the rest of their Sunday afternoon.  The Garden Grove CFM is certified by the California Federation of Certified Farmers’ Markets.  Look for the familiar shade covers at the intersection of Main St and Garden Grove Blvd.

At this time there is currently not a Farmers’ Market offered in the city of Santa Ana.  Residents in some parts of Santa Ana may be able to drive either to the Garden Grove CFM, the Orange CFM, or the Anaheim CFM.  Stanton residents may also visit the Anaheim Farmers’ Markets.

At the Huntington Beach Certified Farmers’ Market, you get your locavore fix with a view.  Located at the corner of Main Street and Pacific Coast Hwy, in sight of the pier, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley residents can make a Friday at the beach a little more special at the CFM between 1pm and 5pm.  The Huntington Beach CFM is open every Friday, regardless of weather, all year round.

The Certified Farmer’s Market at the Village in Orange is worth getting up on a Thursday morning for.  From 9am to 1pm, every Thursday of the year no matter what the weather, shoppers can buy from farmers and vendors who are each inspected to ensure that they are the actual growers or crafters of the goods they sell.  The Village in Orange is located on Village Way, off of Tustin and between Katella and Lincoln.

On Wednesdays near where historic El Camino Real meets 3rd Street, Tustin residents can enjoy strolling through their own CFM from 9am until 1pm.  Like many of the Farmers’ Markets in Orange County, Tustin’s is certified by the Orange County Farm Bureau, and is open every Wednesday, rain or shine, all year round.

If you’re going to the Westminster Mall on a Wednesday afternoon you’ll find more than just retail stores.  The Westminster Certified Farmers’ Market is open in the parking lot at Golden West and Bolsa, across from the Target store, from 12pm until 5pm.  Shop outdoors at the mall for a change.
