The Fires that Seared the Heart of Boston: The Great Boston and Cocoanut Grove Fires Revisited

default

Stephanie Schorow is a long-time Boston-area writer with love of local history and a reporter’s nose for finding stories off the beaten track. She has been fascinated with the 1942 Cocoanut Grove fire since she researched that tragedy for her first book, Boston on Fire: A History of Fire and Firefighting in Boston (2003). She followed up with The Cocoanut Grove Fire (2005). Her other books include The Crime of the Century: How the Brink's Robbers Stole Millions and the Hearts of Boston (2008, Commonwealth Editions) and East of Boston: Notes from the Harbor Islands (2008, The History Press). Ms. Schorow was the editor of Boston's Fire Trail: A Walk Through the City's Fire and Firefighting History, produced by the Boston Fire Historical Society, based on her idea. Part of the BPL's Local and Family History Lecture Series
