Brazilian Carnival 2009
Local visual artist Jen Miller isn’t just rising to the top of Los Angeles’ thriving art community- she is dancing her way there, with a confident smile and the same kind of powerful gaze that you might recognize in Birds of Paradise, her latest series which will be on bright and beautiful display at the Brazilian Carnival 2009.
The largest Carnival party on the West Coast is returning to its original location of the Hollywood Palladium after twenty years, and preparations are underway to create the most extravagant celebration of Brazilian dance, music, art and culture to date. Miller is commemorating a personal return as well, as it is her 15th year of performing as a dancer on stage. Her identity as dancer with multi-cultural dance troupe Tropidanza, has richly inspired Birds of Paradise, which celebrate the raw power and evocative exuberance of sambistas (Samba dancers). Miller’s art will serve as aesthetic action-shots for the festivities throughout the venue, the ferocious sensuality of her subjects flamboyantly displayed through their graceful energy and eloquently captured dynamism.
Join in the sizzling music party that is Brazilian Carnival 2009 not only to fete this up-and-coming artist and her depictions of a new and more powerful post-modern femininity, but to vigorously celebrate life and art inspired by beauty like you are on the beaches of Brazil herself.
