Battle of the MEGA MIXES
Knight Riders' Battle of the Mega Mixes is the Northwest's premier DJ talent competition. Contestants from all walks of life and musical styling compete in this yearly event for a chance to win huge prizes and bragging rights. We are fast approaching this year's competition set for October 18th 2008 at The Nectar Lounge in Seattle We are now actively calling out for contestant submissions.
This year marks the third annual Battle of the Mega Mixes competition. BOTMM 2008 promises to be our largest, most entertaining competition yet!
Outline of the Competition: This is a vinyl only competition. So you may only use records to battle! There are two rounds. In each round competitors have ten minutes to prove to the audience and judges that only they have what it takes to be a BOTMM Champion. After the first round the judges will tally up their scorecards and select 2 DJs to advance to the second and final round of the competition. After the remaining 2 finalists compete the audience will have a chance to vote by applause for their favorite DJ of the night. Only one will win! The audience will decide.
This is a MegaMix Battle! We will only be selecting the highest caliber of DJs to compete. If your only trick is scratching and beat juggling you may want to learn how to match a beat before even thinking of submitting your profile for consideration.
What is a MegaMix? Wikipedia sums it up pretty nicely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megamix
Although the definition found here should not necessarily be used to define how your set should be formatted. Your definition of a MegaMix should be defined by your own interpretation but should still function as a MegaMix for this competition.
What the Judges are scoring on:
? Stage Presence ? Track selection ? Mixing skills ? Continuity ? Pace and timing ? Number of tracks used ? Crowd appreciation ? Mistakes ? Over all performance ? Over all command of mixer and turntable
Rules:
You must prepare 2 different ten minute sets if you intend to win. If you make it to the final round without a second set you will be disqualified.
You only have ten minutes! Make them count.
You have ONE minute to get on stage, set up, and start your set after the DJ before you. After one minute, your set will start with or without you. You may prepare for your set anyway you like leading up to your performance as long as it does not impede or interfere with a fellow competitor.
You must end your set at the ten minute mark or you may be disqualified.
You may use your own needles, headphones and slip mats, if you wish.
You must leave the turntables if fine working condition after your set. Any alterations to the turntables settings that may prevent the next DJ to set up and perform on time, must be set back to fine working conditions. If you fail to do this you will be disqualified.
To compete you must submit your profile for consideration. Your Profile should include the following information and in the same order. Name: Dj Name: Musical style: Affiliations: Website: Email: Bio:
And a short mix, emailed, or dropped off. You can drop your mix off at Knight Riders Get MADE Tuesdays at Vito's. Just ask for Travis Baron
