Jeremy Jones Xtet CD Release

Jeremy Jones Xtet CD Release

J&J Music and Broken Time Records are proud to announce the release of the Jeremy Jones Xtet CD Awakening to Life and CD Release concert at Dazzle Jazz Club. The concert and CD will feature all original music composed by Jeremy Jones for the Xtet. Joining Jeremy are some of Denver’s finest musicians: Greg Gisbert (trumpet), Serafin Sanchez (sax), Ben Markley (piano & rhodes) and Bijoux Barbosa (bass). The Xtet’s Seattle Release Party in May was a huge success, and this show promises to be the same.

“Music can be a powerful pointer to a state of consciousness in which joy and peace are natural and spontaneous.” – Jeremy Jones

Emerging drummer Jones has been making a name for himself on the Seattle scene for the last 5 years. He has quickly become one of the first-call players due to the fire and passion that he exudes every time he sits down at the kit. From tours of Peru with SWOJO, to sold-out shows in Denver with the Serafin Sanchez / Jeremy Jones Quintet, to the weekly gig he plays with his band The Teaching, listeners always leave his performances commenting on the intensity Jeremy brings to each undertaking. Jeremy honed his drumming skills at Duke University under Paul Jeffrey, former saxophonist of Thelonious Monk. He then studied in New York with the exuberant jazz drummer Winard Harper, for whom Jeremy subbed multiple times in jazz legend Billy Taylor’s trio. Jeremy’s tunes sparkle with joy and life, and are masterfully executed by the Xtet on the new CD and in concert.

Also featured will be saxophonist Serafin Sanchez. Jeremy and Serafin have been close friends and musical companions since high school. The Colorado Music Buzz raves that Serafin “us(es) his saxophone to unleash heart-wrenching melodies.” Active musical projects include The Serafin Sanchez Jeremy Jones Quintet, Trip Hiplet, The Electric Saxophone Duo, and The Humble Bees. He performs in Denver with The 9th & Lincoln Orchestra, The Ben Markley Quintet, and has been a member of The Glenn Miller Orchestra and Funk-Rock band Bop Skizzum.

Show times are 7:00 & 9:00pm. Tickets are $12.00, or pay $25 and receive a copy of the CD. Please visit www.dazzlejazz.com or call 303.839.5100 to make reservations for the show.

Jeremy Jones Xtet CD Release

Music: Jazz

Dazzle is a very popular Jazz club in downtown Denver. I’m not a regular there because Jazz is not my music. I will, however, go anywhere to listen to (and watch) Jeremy Jones play drums. Which explains how I ended up at Dazzle Jazz last night. Jeremy is the son of our friends Rob and Martha. We have known him since he was three. And there is something not quite definitive enough about saying he ‘plays drums.’ He is classically trained and is a gifted composer. He actually appears to me to be one with the drums. He leads his group easily, plays every single part of what I believe drummers call ‘the kit’, and lures the audience in to a total musical experience. I can’t hum the music on my way out of the club, but I know that the 90 minute set was over much too soon. Jeremy lives in Seattle and comes to Denver too rarely. Jazz drummer Jeremy Jones grew up in Denver, but for the past five years he's lived in Seattle, where he plays in a number of bands, including his trio, the Teaching, and another outfit called the Xtet. On the last group's latest album, Awakening to Life, Jones shows off his first-rate compositional skills as well as some deft timekeeping chops. He undoubtedly picked those up while studying at Duke University, where he transcribed over seventy drum solos by jazz masters such as Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey and Roy Haynes, among others. Jones comes back to Denver frequently to perform with his longtime friend Serafin Sanchez in a quintet named after both musicians. Trumpeter Greg Gisbert, keyboardist Ben Markley and bassist Bijoux Barbosa will join forces with Jones and Sanchez to interpret a number of the drummer's originals from Life.
