Dirty Velvet feat. BLVD and Souleye
Starborne Presents: DIRTY VELVET
Featuring: BLVD with Souleye

BLVD is a three-piece band that fuses live instrumentation with electronic production to create a truly unique sound. Combining elements of house, breakbeat and rock, their high-energy sound is perfect for the dance floor. Drummer Dylan McIntosh and Bassist Tripp Bains lock into deep subwoofing grooves, mostly of the house variety, slower to wallow in funk or faster to slip into psychedelic space. Electric guitarist Curtis Sloane adds tight melodic progressions and looping patterns, layering and warping himself electronically. All three improvise just enough to lead crowds through unexpected segues and hands-in-the-air crescendos. As a trio, they rely heavily on their production skills in the studio. By creating samples and synth lines they combine an organic live sound with the repetition and melody of electronic music.
Souleye, a Colorado based conscious-wordsmith MC, believes that music is a true healing art. His choice to perform freestyle and completely improvisational lyrics allows the present audience to participate and be involved in the creation and collective energy of the music. Souleye also brings in a new fresh fusion of written songs. Much like life, each performance is genuine and can never be replicated. Unafraid to challenge paradigms, Souleye has been bridging gaps and crossing paths between Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, Electronic, Bluegrass and FUNK.

A DJ Saved My Life
What can I say? I met Souleye at the Symbiosis Festival last fall, the week that electronic music changed my life. This kid freakin' rocks, and he's coming all the way up to Seattle to the Crimson C to lay some fat tracks on us. That little club is goin' DOWN.

BLVD is EFNAMZN
So I was at the Ground Zero party in San Francisco, the last weekend of 2007, dancing my face off for this amazing act, they were straight blowing my mind and throwing me into the best sort of spasms. They finished up and I left the dance floor to get some water and ran into this random couple said to me, "WOW, you must REALLY love BLVD! You were dancing like a possessed woman!"..."Yeah, I do...BLVD...," happy to know who the hell had been rockin' my world. Even better- that same couple was running the backstage area and invited me in for that much needed H20. I found some water, some munchies, and the Glitch Mob. Chips and dip and Boreta and OOah? EFNAMZN. Now I know better, and I know BLVD.
