Life...The Best Game In Town
Harvey Milk Rolls into town this Thursday 7/31 at the Funhouse. After hearing their latest CD Life...The Best Game In Town (Hydra Head 2008), I gotta be there in person. My blog about it: http://blog.culturemob.com/harvey-milk-lifethe-best-game-in-town

No Reverb!!!
It turns out Harvey Milk doesn't like the reverb. "No Reverb", that was the only audible direction the band gave the sound guy at the funhouse tonight. Actually, it was more like "no f#$@ing reverb!" but you get my point. Yeah, they didn't need any reverb to do what they did tonight. That helpless little building had to take on a sonic blast that knocked anyone who knew anything about Harvey Milk, back to the early 1990's.
I got all up to stage right until the vapors from the "john" was too much. Then I angled my way towards the middle. I look up at the dingy red velvet curtain as the backdrop to Harvey Milk's monumental affront to peace and order.
This show took the ego out of everyone in the room. As far as I could see, the entire front half of this packed room were banging their heads to the rhythms of their powerfully unpredictable drummer. They were so lound and so deliberately patient, the audience was completely at the mercy of this hard, humming, distorted band. The singer thanked the crowd for being so cool to him. Everyone got into these guys.
The last song made my teeth rattle and my eardrums burst. It must have been 15 minutes long I reckon, but I'm here to tell you. It wasn't nearly long enough. For one minute during their set, I looked all around and almost every eye in the joint was closed, every head was swaying. There are two types of shows a band can play. There are shows to entertain and there are shows to change history as we know it.
Harvey Milk took one of the oldest forms of music in the western world and turned it into something copletely new. They even busted out a touching cover from the lead singer of the Pouges. I doubt anyone in that room would argue that Harvey Milk put on one of the best shows Seattle has ever seen. I'm serious!
Thanks to Infinite Shows for promoting this event. When I wake up, I think I'll blog about the show too!

Harvey Milk
There was no doubt that Harvey Milk are seasoned musicians that ain't afraid of leaving everything they got on that stage. You can't fake that kind of heart! I was blown away by the range this metal-ish band had.
I should be sleeping now but I can't come off my dark cloud. They were amazing!
