Russian Circles
Russian Circles is a three piece instrumental band from Chicago. It would be tough to imagine that a band would be able to develop its own unique presence and innovation with such solid groundwork in the instrumental genre. However, Russian Circles does bring something new to the table. Their songs feel incredibly narrative and linear. There is no angular flash or mathematical flair. These songs stream through themes and by no means build on just one repeating idea. They are gargantuan in scope. They flow seamlessly from beautiful soft ambience to truly defined melody to massively thick heaviness with a gradual progression that never leaves you lost. Variety is no gimmick and they are a band that does not just vacillate within an achieved sonic identity.

Russian Circles "Station"
Station is the name of the latest Russian Circles release (Suicide Squeeze Records). This band from Chicago dished up an intense melodic CD for their sophomore release and it's a great one! You'll find that no matter what your mood is, this band will connect with you. The tracks are stoic and extremely powerful. The most interesting thing about Russian Circles is that they found a way to make a modern soundtrack for Chicago. The soundtrack of a new generation. Station is it!
These guys that make up the band (Brian, Dave and Mike) are very approachable and cool as hell! I ain't fooled though. They are sonic warriors to be sure. After listening to them live (or their latest CD Station), you will feel as if you've been through a rights of passage. Welcome to Chicago!
