It\’s that time of year again, time for EMP\’s annual Science Fiction + Fantasy Short Film Festival. The fest goes down on Saturday, January 19, at Seattle\’s iconic Cinerama Theater.
Now entering its eighth year, SFFSFF is a great chance for young filmmakers to have their work seen and critiqued by a panel of industry veterans. The 2013 jury includes Andrew Allen (The Thomas Biele Cipher), Sue Corcorhan (Gory, Gory, Hallelujah), Robert Horton (KUOW), Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Gallactica), Charles Mudede (The Stranger, Police Beat), Bill Plympton (Guard Dog, Push Comes to Shove), Jason Sondhi (Short of the Week), and Rider and Shiloh Strong (Cabin Fever, The Dungeon Master).
The program is split into two sessions, each featuring ten short films. An awards ceremony will be held after the second session, where a number of jury prizes will be handed out. There is also an audience award in play, so be sure to show up and vote for your favorite.
An encore presentation will be held the next day, Sunday, January 20, at SIFF Cinema Uptown. Check out their website for tickets and information.

When rendered powerless by an outside force, a young woman must find a way to fight back.

Victor Karloch receives a journal from a colleague involved in a salvage operation for missing sea freighters in the North Sea. In this journal, Karloch’s friend describes his descent into the abysmal deep with the use of a diving bell, and his encounters with the ghosts of a lost Templar Knights\’ ship.
While doing laundry, a misfit seven-year-old girl tumbles into an alluring other-world where she must decide the fate of her birthmark.
Mankind now has the godlike power of time travel. Unfortunately it’s been discovered by a cocky, young student. When his college professor takes credit for the idea, both men begin using the invention for a small time rivalry.
