Books for America is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC whose mission is to promote literacy, provide access to books for the underprivileged and to foster life-long learning amongst the disadvantaged.
Recently, the organization has focused on collecting books for children, but accepts donations of almost any type of book. Books for America will also take DVDs, Audiobooks, CDs and other collectibles. What is most important is that the donated items are in good condition.
In 2005 the organization opened a bricks-and-mortar store near the intersection of 22nd and P Streets NW, in Dupont Circle, from which it organizes its community outreach programs and provides an outlet for book donors and buyers alike.
