Artists You May Have Missed Who Released Albums in 2012

It’s that time of the year again: a time for lists!  Twenty-twelve  has been another fruitful year of album releases, from big-name pop stars to up-and-coming artists. Sure, we all got excited when Taylor Swift\’s new record hit shelves, or hit up iTunes when Rihanna\’s latest album came out, but there are a lot of other talented musicians who have cut records this year.  Philadelphia\’s own Good Old War put out their third album Come Back as Rain and performed at Union Transfer in celebration of it.  Montreal-native Patrick Watson released a beautiful record called Adventures in Your Own Backyard and played songs from it at World Cafe Live and Union Transfer.  The Mynabirds cooked up Generals, an album that calls for political action in a society that still endures exploitation and denial of basic civil rights.  And on more of an upbeat note, South Carolina country/folk duet Shovels and Rope created the album O\’ Be Joyful.  If you\’re looking for new music and not sure where to turn, perhaps one of these artists will resonate with you.
