Denver Late Night Eats

It happens to just about everyone at some point – the insatiable late-night hunger.  Some people it’s a result of skipping dinner due to a heavy workload, others it’s a result of staying up late due to a heavy “playload”.  Regardless of the reason behind it, where in Denver do you go to satisfy your cravings?  Most locals already have their favorite late-night eateries, but for those who are visiting, or simply may not be “in the know”, below is a glimpse at a few hot spots around Denver that cater to the late-night crowd.

The Cherry Cricket – Known by many locals as being the best burger joint in town, The Cherry Cricket is a Denver landmark.  It has won many awards in its long history, and was even recently featured on the Travel Channel’s “Man VS. Food”.  Here your burger truly is “made to order”.  You pick the size, each individual topping, and how you want it cooked.  The different combinations are endless, and even include non-traditional options such as cream cheese, sour cream, green chili strips, and much more.  The kitchen serves food until midnight, and the bar is open until 2 A.M.

Pete’s Kitchen – When it comes to late-night dining options, Pete’s Kitchen is one of the safest bets.  This little gem is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Serving mainly a mix of American and Greek dishes, Pete’s Kitchen is a household name for locals.  A very popular place for the late-night crowd in Denver,  it is not uncommon for the line to be out of the front door whether it be 2:00 in the afternoon, or 2:00 in the morning.  The breakfast burrito and the gyros plate are both menu favorites, and the delicious milkshakes are a perfect compliment to any meal.  Click here to read a full review.

Wazee Supper Club – Situated inside of an old depression-era plumbing company building, this uniquely decorated pizza joint has had people talking for over 30 years.  Many locals consider this to be their home away from home.  For those stopping in for the first time, the converted 1937 garage door opener that currently is used to shuttle food and drinks is a must see.  Offering a variety of appetizers, pizzas, burgers and sandwiches,  the Wazee Supper Club serves food until 1:00 A.M. Monday-Saturday, and until 11:00 P.M. on Sundays.

Mezcal – In most cities, the only real option for late-night Mexican food is the popular fast food shack with the big reddish bell and the cute chihuahua.  In Denver it is a different story.  Mezcal is a great little neighborhood restaurant that has won such recent awards as “Best Friday-Night Mexican” and “Best Late-Night Tacos”.  Probably one of the better known late-night deals in town, Mezcal serves $1 tacos after 10:00 P.M. until close, with excellent drink specials and a gigantic tequila bar to match.

Jerusalem Restaurant - Usually when most people crave that late-night meal, they will go with what they know, and will usually not be willing to try something new.  However, Jerusalem Restaurant is a perfect option when you are craving more than just the same old burgers and fries.  Serving Middle-Eastern fare, Jerusalem Restaurant is open 7 days a week, Sunday through Thursday until4:00 A.M. and Fridays and Saturdays until 5:00 A.M.  Locals have given this place rave reviews, and visitors will most certainly agree.

Hard Rock Cafe – The Hard Rock Cafe is an international institution.  Located on just about every corner of the world, it would be a difficult task to find someone who has not heard of it.  The Hard Rock Denver is conveniently located on the 16th Street Mall as well, and is the perfect launching ground for a night out on the town.  Plus, all of the music memorabilia adorning the walls will make you feel like you are a rock star – if only for an hour.  They are open until 11:00 P.M. on weeknights and until 12:30 A.M. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Lancer Lounge – OK, so a dive bar is usually not the first place people think of when they are looking for late-night eats.  However, The Lancer Lounge’s new menu is a perfect compliment to their stiff drinks.  They serve your typical American favorites like BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs, bratwursts, hamburger, and cheeseburgers.  Admittedly, the focus of this place is their drinks, but if you are looking for a place to kill two birds with one stone and satisfy your hunger as well as your need for fun then The Lancer Lounge is the place for you.
