Kickstarter has been used to instigate all kinds of projects over the last few years, from jewelry lines to movies. It has also become a great option for independent publishers looking to get new projects off the ground. As Penguin and Random House merge, and other mergers loom on the horizon, it’s good to know that the Indie presses can still survive in an increasingly cutthroat industry.
Artistically Declined Press is one of those small indie publishers, and they’re currently Kickstarting their latest project: “An Anthology of Writing by Fathers, for and about Kids”. The idea is simple but unique, bringing together a host of literary talent to write about the one thing that’s dearest to their hearts – their children. Many of the contributing authors are renowned for their adult fiction rather than kids’ literature, and the collection promises to include some truly unique stories for fathers and children alike.
Here’s the official blurb from their Kickstarter page:
Edited by Ben Tanzer, the ultimate “daddy cool” writer, and author of You Can Make Him Like You and My Father’s House (not to mention numerous others), Daddy Cool is unlike any other anthology we’ve seen in the small press arena or otherwise: fathers (and indie writers) writing for and about kids. There’s no age restriction here, you will see work spanning from middle grade to YA, and even writing on parenting itself. All this compiled into one great book, providing a unique experience that can be shared with the whole family.
To date the contributing authors include Ben Tanzer, J.A. Tyler, Robert Duffer, Ryan W. Bradley, Pete Anderson, bl pawelek, Seth Berg, Matthew Salesses, Mark Brand, Nik Korpon, Nathan Holic, Caleb Ross, Corey Mesler, CL Bledsoe, John Longstocking, Jason Fisk, Robert Arellano, Barry Graham, Chad Redden, Dave Housley, Jesse Jordan, Fred Sasaki… and me. It’s a great lineup and there are some unique goodies up for grabs as part of the Kickstarter campaign too, including signed copies of contributing authors’ novels, Daddy Cool gear, and a lifetime subscription to Artistically Declined Press’s releases.
If you’re already hooked then please ‘like’ the Daddy Cool Kickstarter page, and consider contributing to the project’s future. Do it to support indie literature, do it to get your hands on the goodies – hell, do it for the kids.
