The Love Languages are one of the bands playing Bloktoberfest

Bloktoberfest will be held Saturday, October 24th, on Christian Street between 20th and 21st. The festival will feature representatives of select craft breweries from around the country showcasing their biggest and best fall brews, as well as delicious food from neighborhood vendors, and a great line-up of live music from local and nationally-touring acts.

Proceeds from Bloktoberfest will be directed toward vital architectural preservation work for the Shiloh Baptist Church at 2040 Christian St, a stunning building designed by Frank Furness in 1868.

This day-long outdoor festival will feature representatives of select craft breweries from around the country showcasing their biggest and best fall beers, as well as delicious food from neighborhood vendors, and a great line-up of live music from local and nationally-touring acts.

Bloktoberfest is set to feature somes of the finest brews from Bell’s Brewery, Flying Dog, Lancaster Brewing Company, New Holland Brewing, Sly Fox, and Stoudt’s. Neighborhood cafes and bars, like Beauty Shop Cafe and Sidecar Bar and Grille will be on hand to sell their offerings. Denise’s Soul Food, one of the food trucks that Phawker recently dubbed one of the Best Meals on Four Wheels, will also be on hand to sell it’s food.

As for music Bloktoberfest has put together an impressive lineup that might just be on the rise. Paper Monster, a four piece multi-instrumental and vocal group will their diverse mix of rock, indie, and alternative country to the stage. The Major Leagues, the band that Doug Wallen of Philadelphia Weekly dubs “Drowsy down-home folk-rock with a warm and vintage feeling”, will be playing. North Carolina’s The Love Language’s who have been praised for their lo-fi indie rock, and have just signed onto Merge Records, will be one of the headliners. Local singer Adam Arcuragi, who has been earning a lot of recognition for his newest album “I Am Become Joy”, will also be playing with his band.
