Even after his death a Michael Jackson event has some controversy, though this one was quickly settled and not nearly as unpleasant as his past ones.  Seems the copyright to the much anticipated song ‘This is It’ was not properly credited, and a c0-writer was left out. I’m sure the name jumps to mind when you think King of Pop and Michael Jackson, but the co-writer of this new hit song is none other than Paul Anka. I know, you heard a record scratch when you read that, right?  But don’t forget, he did write Frank Sinatra’s Classic My Way.

Mister Anka is actually quite the genre crossing talent, did you know he is a writer of other peoples hits.  So don’t let the Anka name fool you, this 60’s teen idol is a modern hipster as he recently did a song with Bon Jovi – and if you go to his site, it does look a bit like the cover work for ‘This is It’. (Maybe he was an inspiration to MJ for reals?  I’m just sayin’.)  And though his works have amassed him a bundle of bucks, he is soon to be even more rich as he is entitled to what will be a small fortune from these sales. Nicely going Mr. A (in more Anka news, his daughter is married to Jason Bateman. Random, yes, but it’s true. Look it up.)

Sales have been solid and reviews of the song have been quite positive so enjoy it for yourselves at the link above. As for me, I think it is a good song, and solidly Michael, but lacking that last final polish I’m sure he would’ve given it. Sigh.

And with 100 or so other songs not yet released, this MJ new release hysteria will surely be a pattern for years to come.
