Remember the story of the scaredy-cat schoolmaster and the ghost of the headless horseman? Well, you can see the Legend of Sleepy Hollow come to life this October at Morton Arboretum in Chicago!
In an effort to promote healthy living, the Morton Arboretum holds fun, interactive theatre hikes when weather permits. For one day during the fall season, get in the spirit of Halloween by attending the Sleepy Hollow Theatre Hike.
This musical is a new, comical adaptation of the classic American tale by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The Arboretum’s website describes the show as “charming family musical about romance and other terrors. Tensions in the little village escalate when schoolmaster Ichabod Crane vies with a shy blacksmith to win the heart of the wealthiest woman in town. Meanwhile, rumors circulate that the local ghost, the Headless Horseman, is seeking his revenge.”
Theatre hikes take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. on the following days: October 3, 4, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31; November 1. There is also a speical holiday performance on Columbus Day, Monday, October 12.
A low-impact hike takes place on October 10. Strollers, wheelchairs and walkers are permitted on this hike.

I’m one of the authors of the Sleepy Hollow musical. Thanks so much for your nice article. However, there are a lot more performances than just the one on October 10th. What’s happening on October 10th is the one and only “low impact hike.” The rest of the “regular impact” theatre-hikes are on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. on October 3, 4, 11, 12 (Monday, Columbus Day), 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and November 1.
