H Street Country Club: Mexican food meets mini-golf in Washington, DC’s Atlas District

h-streetThe prolific restaurateur who previously jumpstarted Northeast DC’s H Street corridor with the Rock and Roll Hotel, The Red & The Black and The Palace of Wonders, will finally open the doors on his newest Atlas District destination, the H Street Country Club, this week.

Sporting a forty-foot long tartan covered bar, over twenty kinds of tequila, and “Mexican cuisine with both southern northern accents,” the H Street Country Club stands at 1335 H Street, NE, the former home of the Phish Tea Café. But the delectable selection of south-of-the border libations is merely prologue to the Country Club’s main attraction: an old-timey array of American pastimes from years gone by.

Classic pool and shuffleboard tables, along with several skeeball machines, are sure to be a big draw, but real vintage gaming aficionados will instantly be taken with the club’s second story that houses an indoor nine-hole mini-golf course. For seven bucks a pop, customers can “shoot through the corridors of U Street, around the Washington Monument, and past towering K Street Lawyers” on a putt-putt golf course that recreates all of DC’s tourist-trap attractions…without the “weather permitting” fine print.

Plus, in another first for H Street, the restaurant will offer valet parking (not to mention food prepared by a James Beard Award-winning chef…tremble, Sticky Rice, tremble). The restaurant’s menu can be viewed in full here and here are the rest of the details, via the HSCC homepage:
