in Denver

Sometimes it seems like farmer’s markets are a year-round affair (a testament to their growing popularity, no doubt) but certainly the ones you visit at the end of summer or in early fall are going to have the freshest produce. It’s nice for the environment, too, given that only a tenth of the energy used to get the food from seed to plate is used to grow the item itself; the rest is spent on packaging and transport. Farmer’s markets like those listed below cut out the middle man, which sometimes results in market prices that are lower than those found in a grocery store.

CHERRY CREEK FARMER’S MARKET
One of the busiest in Denver, this extravaganza at 1st Avenue and University Boulevard is open Saturdays through October 31st and Wednesdays through September 30th.

CITY PARK ESPLANADE FRESH MARKET
With a little help from Kaiser Permanente, this market sets up shop on Sundays through November 1st at Colfax & Columbine.

DENVER CIVIC CENTER OUTDOOR MARKET & CAFÉ
If you don’t mixing your homemade hummus with your homeless, this offering runs Tuesdays through September 29th at Colfax and Broadway.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE FRESH MARKET
If you’re in the DTC area or just south of Denver in general, don’t miss Greenwood Village’s entry into fresh food on Thursdays through September 3rd at 5415 Landmark Place.

STAPLETON FARMER’S MARKET
You can almost hear the ghosts of planes past as you peruse the peaches at the former airport Sundays through October 11th at 29th and Roslyn.

Farmer's Markets are local treasures and a great place for social interaction and timeless traditions.  The Halifax Farmer's Market began in 1750 and is the longest-running market in North America. Have a look!
