Writers, poets, artists and, yes, musicians in Atlanta will not want to miss “A Night of Literary Heresy”on December, 16, 2010.
What is it? A great chance to hear readings from six local writers while listening to musical performances and possibly wining prizes, such as gift certificates to Atlanta bookstores and tattoo shops.
Who’s putting it on? A group of writers called Kill Your Darlings ATL which aspires to create a nucleus of young, Atlanta-based writers. If you’re a writer, I bet you can guess where the name came from–William Faulkner, of course. His well-known quote is, “In writing, you must kill all your darlings.”
Which authors will be reading?
- Blake Butler. He writes for HTML Giant, a literature blog. His third book, There Is No Year, is forthcoming April 2011 from Harper Perennial. His poetry and prose has been published widely. Here is one, A Discipline Of No Want from Opium Magazine. He will be reading from his upcoming novel.
- Allison Lubel. She recently graduated from Georgia State University and writes for local publication Purge ATL. Read an article she wrote for this publication about a burlesque collective in Atlanta.
- Melysa Martinez. She is a stand-out writer in pop-culture content. She is the founder of Kill Your Darlings ATL and interns with Creative Loafing Atlanta. You can find her writing on AreYouShaved. Com, a sex blog.
- Davy Minor. He writes for Ohmpark, an Atlanta music blog. He is also will be launching a science fiction internet series in 2011.
- Andrew Page. He is part of the Lobster Mobster Poetry Collective.
- Matthew Proctor. He is an Atlanta writer. Here is an interview he wrote.
Music performances will be by Little Tybee and Christ, Lord. See who’s going on the Facebook event.
After taking in all that talent, you want to know how to check it out, right? Head to WonderRoot (982 Memorial Drive) at 8 p.m. Beer and wine will be available.
Sounds like a lot of reasons to not miss this Atlanta literary event. Oh yeah, and I’ll be there too.
