DESCRIPTION:J&J Music and Broken Time Records are proud to announce the rel
ease of the Josh Rawlings Trio CD Climbing Stairs and CD Release concert at
Bake’s Place in Issaquah. The concert and CD feature all original music
composed by Seattle rising star Josh Rawlings. The show promises to be an i
ntimate and inspired night with The Trio as they celebrate 6 years of playi
 ng together.
\n
\n“The Trio tip-toes beyond everyday jazz and swirls up a
batch of inspiration and joy for living life.”
\n– Josh Rawlings
\n
\n
The Josh Rawlings Trio explores the sounds of what they call “joyful jazz
.” They specialize in the spontaneous creation of compelling and excitin
g music with a wide-ranging repertoire\, from original compositions to time
less jazz standards and arrangements of video game themes and more. Their m
usic is light and upbeat\, solid and mature\, and carries a real sense of t
he emerging jazz voice from the next generation of players. Each member bri
ngs a vitality and youthful spirit to the music that sends audience members
away exhilarated and delighted. The group features acclaimed songwriter an
d pianist Josh Rawlings\, upright bassist Nate Omdal and drummer Adam Kessl
er\, all graduates of Seattle’s renowned Cornish College of the Arts. Th
e Trio found great inspiration learning from and performing with their prof
 essors\; Denney Goodhew\, Julian Priester\, Randy Halberstadt\, Chuck Deard
orf and Mark Ivestor among others. They worked extensively with Goodhew in
his latest project\, The Qhromatics. That group fueled a matured sensitivit
y and focused interplay now exhibited by The Trio on every stage they perfo
 rm.
\n
\nThe Trio has recently been seen playing sold out performances at t
he Triple Door\, Bite of Seattle\, Taste of Tacoma\, Out to Lunch and the P
ike Place Market music festivals. They have been featured at parties and ga
las for Cornish and with Seattle celebrities such as Paul Allen\, Bill Gate
 s and Mayor Greg Nichols.
\n
\nThe group’s début album Climbing Stairs i
s available on Seattle’s Broken Time Records. The CD exhibits the breadth
of the Trio’s playing and conjures up a myriad of influences and emotion
 s. From the burning\, Monk-like Bebop of “Acquittal” to the Abdullah Ib
rahim-inspired title track “Climbing Stairs”\, the CD gets toes tapping
and spirits swinging hard! The Trio anticipates going back into the studio
in the fall of 2008 to record arrangements of video game themes and a reco
 rding of jazz standards.
\n
\nDoor open at 6:00pm and show times are 7:45 &
9:00pm. Dinner and show reservations are $44.50. This is a private show

uartet’s second album\, “No More\, No Less”. The JPQ will celebrate w
ith a CD Release Party at Lucid Jazz Lounge on October 24\, 2009 at 9:30pm.
The JPQ is: Jason Parker (trumpet)\, Josh Rawlings (piano)\, Evan Flory-Ba
rnes (bass) and D’Vonne Lewis (drums). They are joined on three tracks by
special guest Cynthia Mullis on tenor sax.
\n
\n“No More\, No Less” is
the follow-up to the JPQ’s self-titled debut album from 2007. The new CD
documents the growth the band has gone through during the past two years a
nd illustrates the cohesive\, passionate playing that prompted Earshot Jazz
to call them “The next generation of Seattle Jazz.” Songs include one
original by Parker and fresh takes on compositions by a diverse group of so
ngwriters\, including Wayne Shorter\, Cole Porter\, Sam Rivers\, Nick Drake
\, George Gershwin\, Duke Pearson and Tatum Greenblatt. The addition of Mul
lis on three tracks adds fire and depth to the band\, and she fits in perfe
ctly with the exploratory nature of the core quartet.
\n
\nThe JPQ prides
itself on compelling original compositions and fresh interpretations of jaz
z standards. With the inclusion of Nick Drake’s “Three Hours” they ha
ve signaled a commitment to playing songs from outside the traditional jazz
canon. And with Tatum Greenblatt’s “Mance’s Dance” they have shown
a desire to play songs written by their peers. Greenblatt is a Seattle-bor
n\, NYC-based trumpet player currently studying for a Masters’ Degree at
 Juilliard School of Music.
\n
\nThe CD Release Party at Lucid Jazz Lounge w
