All Of Them

Each member of this band called Marmalade can hold their own. It's my opinion that the group can bring it! The proof is at ToST every Thursday night. Where I come from, we let beats solve disputes, not words. My money's on Marmalade!

NOT

Fred, where do you come from, Planet Rock? There's no "dispute" here, simply a difference of opinion (and knowledge). That said, you're right: the proof IS at Tost every Thursday night --> it is exactly where the mediocrity gets kicked out, er, "brought" every week. And that's where Marmalade will probably fizzle out, in due time, with the same funk-music neophytes and simply-don't-know-any-better kids'n'clubbers who've been there from the start, cheering on their cheesy mish mash, right to the very end. Go ahead, put your money down -- but realize that the odds are waaaay against you, unless, of course, Marmalade brings in another hired gun such as Davee C... who, btw, wouldn't have hopped on this long-running gig unless he needed the ca$h. Playing with these pretentious Maramalade fools is a step down for him. And if Davee hasn't yet come to terms with the fact that he's jamming/improvising/etc. in the minor leagues, well, maybe it's time for the cat to put down the 420 pipe, so to speak, and face reality. Y'all too.

IMIJ

Well you did forget the best band Davee C was ever in: IMIJ. Oh and I'm sorry, did I hear you just say that Davee C's game ain't improvin? Uh...ok. Anyway, the last time I went to see Marmalade, Davee C wasn't there. It was some other cat. He had a different spin to it but I was still groovin'. So it looks like you ain't up for a meeting at ToST. Cool then.

Fred Roth said: "did I hear u just say that Davee C's game ain't improvin?"

uh, not quite. what i CLEARLY implied was that MARMALADE AIN'T pushin' Davee C's game to any sorta next level (musically). that said, have you noticed that when Davee C is there, that he plays with his back to the audience? hmm. maybe he's embarassed 2 b funkin' wit dis dorky crew?

I can live with the difference of opinion and it's clear to me that there is a difference in knowledge. Anyone that second guesses Davee C's motives doesn't know the man.

Here's an idea, why don't we meet up at ToST to hold this disagreement so you can break it down at the actual venue. Hell, I'll even pay for the first round! fredroth1967@gmail.com.

yeah, agreed -- there's no telling what Davee C's motives are without directly asking him... I simply speculated. but let's be honest here... there simply ain't a shitload of gigs out there for him at the moment... the Seattle funk-music scene currently BLOWS. too bad he's not gigging more with his other band, DubChampionz, which used to feature (and hopefully still does) a former keyboard player for THE TIME (Mark Cardenas). Yeah, THAT "Time", from Purple Rain. Suffice to say that M.C.'s wallet says "badass mthf*cka"... but NO ONE ELSE in Marmalade rises to that level of musicianship... not even their occasional guest-star keyboarist Steve Scalfati. Point is, Davee C can do so much better than "Marmalade"... once upon a time, he was part of a killer group called "The Deformations"... which featured Seattle's Turner brothers (Thaddeus & Gerald) along with violin/viola virtuoso Eyvind Kang, who now plays with Bill Frisell on a regular basis. I am familiar with Davee C's overall body of work and the point here, really, is to note that this Thursday night Tost shite ain't pushing him, musically, in any way shape or form. He may be stretchin' out physically as he sweats out their long sets... but his game ain't improvin'. All that said, why would I want to go hash things out with ya a this lame gig? Even if ya bought drinks all night, all that would do is give me the blues... with every beer, I'd simply lament the situation even more...
