The Cure

Biography

The Cure was Goth long before it was cool to cut yourself with razors as you hunched in the girl's room; they made male eyeliner hip before the invasion of Emo-kids in skull-laced jackets in July. In short, The Cure were pioneers, and it is their unique rebelliousness that has earned them a large and loyal following- some complete with Robert Smith hair. The Cure's edgy songs and luscious songwriting has propelled singles such as 'Boys Don't Cry,' 'Just Like Heaven,' 'Lovesong' and 'Friday I'm In Love' to the forefront of the collective consciousness of a generation.

THE CURE MAKES ME CRY

Which is kind of the point, I guess.

If Friday I'm in love and Saturday I'm over it, by Sunday you are lookin' like that plate of nachos I tried to finish but couldn't.

Friday I'm In Love with The Cure; Saturday I'm Over It

Who didn't have a friend back in the day with the tousled hair, the pale face, the black eye makeup, the creepy pallor, the gooney walk? What happened to all those old school Goth cats? I don't know, but they will manifest themselves at The Gorge in May no doubt to sing their hearts out along with Robert Smith and the rest of the good 'ole Cure gang. I never really "got" the Cure's music until I fell madly in love, at which point I embraced it wholeheartedly; it stirred in me emotions and feelings I didn't know were possible. I sung Cure songs out the window of my car like a straight fool, a fool in love. Yes, I will run away with you. Now with a broken heart, I personally can't listen to all the sing-songy love crap, but there was a day I would be at the Gorge with the rest of the freaks in my black eyeliner, singing my lungs out to the stars and moon about love lasting forever. What can I say? Sunday always comes too late.
