Pile of Kittens
Biography
Digging through the remains of New York's finest vegitarin punk rock opera band "Soy Dracula", the soon to be members of "Pile of Kittens" were asked "What is Hardcore, really?" This is a question that can only be answered with one finger and a bottle of good rye, but still Pile of Kittens has arisen to rock out a response to anyone to dares to question the sounds of hardcore.
The band was founded on Jon's need to scream out all that was right, wrong, and in between, in the world of politics, religon, and lower east side genterification. After years of being behind the camera at major news orginizations and running the radio waves at R.P.I., Jon knew the intensity and carisma that is needed for a lead singer to get a crowd to chant along to a raging chorus.
He teamed up with Benn after "Soy Dracula's" powerful New York City Halloween parade performace to grind out riffs that ranged from Helmet's dirty guitars to Rage Against the Machine's infectious choruses. Pile of Kitten's keeps thing quick and dark, but away from being simply defined as a hardcore or prog-rock. Kittens takes Benn's guitar sound miles away from his California band roots in "Cellar Door" and "Decrapify" to blistering speeds worthy of dropping jaws the moment the band takes the stage.
After sending their first two drummers to the hospital with shoulder injuries, Pile of Kittens found their hard rocking and eye catching drummer Tracey. With roots in the rock world, Tracey brought heavy and steady beats to band. She penned lyrics to some of the most melodic songs while giving the band an over all reason to make sure the drum kit stays well lit on stage.
The band's sound is held together by Douglas on bass. Having spent years behind a drum kit and producing music packages for bands like INXS and The Who, Douglas was ready for a new challenge and put his fingers to the test. He runs through notes like one dollar bills on a friday night at Scores during the punk anthem "264".
