DESCRIPTION:The Joe Trainor Trio returns to Arden to benefit for the Arden
Gild Hall Restoration Fund. After gracing the outdoor stage for 2008's Arde
n Fair and 2009 Arden Music Festival\, JT3 takes the indoor mainstage for a
memorable night of music.Joining them will be The Leslie Carey Band and Th
 e Miles.Show starts at 8. Tickets are $10.Don't miss it!About Joe:Who would
you say are your greatest musical influences? As a piano player my obvious
influences would include Billy Joel\, Elton John and Ben Folds. As a teenag
er\, though I was drawn in by other keyboardists and listened to a lot of P
rogressive Rock. Bands like Genesis\, Jethro Tull\, Rush\, Pink Floyd and Y
es dominated my CD player. For a time I wrote in that vein\, but eventually
discovered the nuances of songwriting and realized that lyric and melody a
re what set songs apart\, not odd meters and over-the-top solos. Discoverin
g Ben Folds\, Jeff Buckley and The Beatles later on in my career reminded m
e of the power of simplistic songwriting. So I‚‚ve been focusing on c
reating music that‚‚s direct in its approach\, but also powerful. And
about Leslie?Leslie Carey is a songwriter in basic black with a love for sy
ncopation\, melody\, poetry and the methodology of songwriting. -Frank Vinc
ent\, Arden Coffee House 2005 She says there are three things she focuses o
 n when writing a song\, ‚‚It‚‚s really one part rhythm\, one pa
rt melody and one part lyrics. And if a song is lacking in any one of these
categories\, then I feel like I‚‚ve let the listener down. Of course
a sense of humor is key too! We have an obligation to the listener to ente
rtain\; otherwise\, what the heck are we doing here?‚‚And The Miles?T
he Miles are a four piece original band that takes the best parts of old sc
hool barn burning americana\, improvisation\, vocal harmonies\, dirty blues
\, and modern rock\, and turns it into something you can stomp your feet to
  and boogie with your lady.Gabe Danyow - Vox\, Guitar\, Harmonica\, Melodic
 a\; Matt Chalfant - Vox\, Guitar\, Bass\; Bryan Kunitsky - Vox\, Guitar\, B
 ass\; Matt Urban - Drums\, Spiritual Advisement

DESCRIPTION:Jill Sobule belongs to a rare breed of artists. Her work is at
once deeply personal and socially conscious\, seriously funny and derisivel
y tragic. Over five albums and a decade of recording\, the Denver-born song
writer/guitarist/singer has tackled such topics as the death penalty\, anor
 exia\, shoplifting\, reproduction\, the French resistance movement\, adoles
cence\, and the Christian right. Did we mention love? Love found\, love los
t\, love wished for and love taken away. While her songs cover a huge amount
of ground\, they all have benefit greatly from Jill's subtle intelligence
and skillful light-handedness. No sloganeering flag-and-fist waving here\,
but rather story songs about human beings\, real and imagined\, which allow
us to step back from the issue\, be it personal or social\, and relate to
it as we would a close friend. To see Jill live and in concert is a rare tre
at. It is on stage that she is most comfortable\, most powerful\, and where
the delicacy and range of her work can be best appreciated. She entertains
\, amuses\, provokes\, and more often then not\, takes her audiences on an
emotional roller coaster\, from comedy to pathos in a few bars of music.Jil
l began playing guitar when she joined the Junior High School band. She nev
er learned to read music\, though\, and faked her way through rehearsals an
d performances by playing by ear. As she began writing songs\, it was very
clear to Jill this was becoming more than a teenage hobby. Music was seriou
s stuff. She played in a variety of funk and rock bands in Colorado\, and e
ventually made her first\, Todd Rundgren-produced\, album for MCA\, Things
Here Are Different. But success did not knock on her door until three years
later\, when Atlantic Records released her MTV staple and national top 20 h
it\, I Kissed A Girl. "That song was a double-edged sword for me\," Jill Sa
ys. "It was perceived as a novelty hit\, but on the other hand it was the f
irst song with an overtly gay topic to be aired on Top 40 radio. I am quite
proud of that." The self-titled album also yielded another hit song\, Supe
rmodel\, included in the Clueless soundtrack.

DESCRIPTION:Catherine Russell is a New Yorker\, born into musical royalty.
Her father\, the late Luis Russell\, was a native of Panama who moved to Ne
w Orleans and then New York City\, becoming a pioneering pianist/composer/b
 andleader\, and Louis Armstrong's long-time musical director. Her mother\,
Carline Ray\, an outstanding bassist and vocalist\, has performed with Mary
Lou Williams and International Sweethearts of Rhythm. Considering her root
s and family pedigree\, itâs no surprise that Catherine Russell is a one-o
f-a-kind singer and musician. Her new album\, "INSIDE THIS HEART OF MINE"\,
to be released on April 13\, is a collection of 13 songs -- tied together b
y the special place these songs hold inside the heart of Catherine Russell.
It's a heart that's warm and effusive\, bluesy and erudite\, bold yet vulne
rable\, passionate yet ethereal. This decades-spanning collection of songs\
, originally performed by the likes of Louis Armstrong\, Duke Ellington\, P
 eggy Lee\, Maxine Sullivan\, Howlinâ Wolf\, Wynonie Harris\, Fats Waller\,
and Catherineâs father\, Luis Russell\, draws from Vaudeville wit\, Tin P
an Alley tune craft\, New Orleans swagger\, Swing Era sock\, the European C
 afe\, Jump Blues jive\, modal Delta Blues\, and Django-esque swing\, with a
n immediacy and a timeless quality. No wonder the music critics love her:"A
masterful singer who knows how to inject her own personality into the heart
  of a great song."Nick Cristiano- Philadelphia Inquirer"The singer's gutsy
blues croon - one of the best this side of Bessie Smith - could melt the ic
e in a bourbon on the rocks."Tristram Lozaw - The Boston Globe" A wonderful
ly charismatic performer with a show-stopping voice and an unabashedly old-
fashioned repertoire."Mike Joyce - The Washington PostRussell sang with a l
aundry list of pop stars David Bowie\, Paul Simon\, Jackson Browne before
releasing her debut album (Cat) in 2006. Her last record\, Sentimental Str
eak\, featured full-band arrangements\, as she mines old songs and makes th
 em her own.
